Mafi shipping is used for the heaviest and most irregular cargo: loads that exceed the capacity of flat rack containers and require specialized handling.
What Is a Mafi?
A Mafi (also called a Mafi trailer or roll trailer) is a very heavy-duty, low-profile transport platform used to move extremely heavy or oversized cargo onto and within vessels. Unlike flat racks (which are lifted by crane), Mafi trailers typically roll directly onto RoRo-capable vessels using specialized port equipment.
When to Use Mafi Shipping
Mafi shipping is the appropriate method for:
- Wind turbines, blades, nacelles, and tower sections that are too long or heavy for flat racks
- Large industrial boilers, very heavy cylindrical equipment
- Power plant components, transformers, generators, and other very heavy industrial cargo
- Very large construction equipment, oversized crawler cranes, large mining equipment
- Cargo exceeding flat rack capacity, when the weight or dimensions exceed what a standard flat rack can handle
The Mafi Process
- Assessment, we evaluate your cargo's weight, dimensions, and destination to confirm Mafi is the right method
- Pickup and transport, specialized transport from your location to the port
- Loading onto Mafi trailer, heavy-duty cranes or skidding equipment position the cargo on the Mafi
- Securing, cargo secured with heavy-duty lashing
- Rolling onto vessel. Mafi trailer rolls directly onto the ship
- Ocean transit, cargo shipped overseas on the Mafi trailer
- Discharge. Mafi rolls off the vessel at the destination port
